Amilpar conducts various actions and socio-educational projects that encourage the mobilization of employees on behalf of an extremely noble cause: to bring health and knowledge to specific groups, contributing to the development of the country.
Amilguinhomóvel (Amil Mobile Friend) is a program that consists of a mobile unit, which objective is to bring eye care, notions of oral prophylaxis and citizenship, in an itinerant way, to children from 2 to 12 years old, through an agreement between Amil and the Education Department of Rio de Janeiro. Children with low vision examination (myopia, far-sighted and astigmatism) receive glasses donated by the project. Six months after the glasses were given, the project returns to the educational institution in order to evaluate whether or not evolution of learning by the student with the use of glasses. The program involves a special participation of our employees and volunteers and, since its beginning in 2007, has already visited 45 schools and approximately 710 glasses have been donated. In four years of the project, the team Amilguinhomóvel has attended more than 22,500 children in public schools, not counting those who were cared for in orphanages.
Amilguinho is also the name of the clinic installed on the premises of the Youth Sports Association (AMEM) in São Paulo, for medical care of children and teenagers in need. Amilpar pays for the maintenance of the clinic, the salary of health professionals and the medicine the children need.
Saúde Nota 1000 (First-Rate Health) is a project that aims to teach students from the seventh grade and upwards in public and private schools the basics of preventive medicine and how to proceed in cases of emergency. It includes theoretical and practical modules taught by the Amil Health Rescue team, addressing various emergency situations, ranging from small accidents to severe trauma and first aid practices until professional help arrives.
Campanha Viva Melhor (Live Better Campaign) aims to change habits and promote better quality of life. Developed by Amil in partnership with state health organizations, the campaign takes place in public places in Rio de Janeiro, and has already focused on themes such as hypertension and anti-smoking. Every year, over 5,000 people had their blood pressure checked free of charge.
Vida - Voluntários Integrados da Amil (Amil Integrated Volunteers) is a program that encourages volunteer work and social engagement. One of its most important initiatives is Amilpar’s partnership with Hemorio, which encourage blood donations to public hospitals and conducts campaigns to collect food, toys and winter clothing, among others.
Every six months, Amilpar opens the doors of its headquarters to employees and members of the community willing to donate blood. At the same time, a registry of bone marrow donors is compiled and visitors are given instructions on disease detection procedures. Employees can schedule their blood donations through the Company’s intranet system, while members of the community can do so through the Internet. Since 2003, thousands of bags of blood have been donated.
We keep up a partnership with "Pró-Criança Cardíaca", an institution that serves needy children and youngsters, from 0 to 18, with cardiac problems. Founded and run by Dr. Rosa Celia, since 1996, the Project has already given thousands of consultations and surgical procedures. The beneficiaries can also receive donations of food, medication and dental treatment. Since we became partners of Pró-Criança, in 1999, we have played a significant role in the project, offering the following support:
• Financing one child heart surgery per month;
• Maintenance of the dental consultations;
• Setting up and funding promotional stands in the medical congresses that we organize to increase awareness of the project;
• Donation of clothes, food and toys;
• Construction and sponsorship of an amphitheater;
• Amil volunteers help as consultants in the management process.
We also buy books and set up a space called "Reader‘s Corner", where the kids and youngsters find an inviting environment for reading.
Vision, Inspiration and Positive attitude; - these three words make up the initials that provide the name for the Young VIP Project, and sum up the ideas proposed by the program. The initiative, which seeks to arouse among youngsters the importance of seeking a better future, was at first aimed at the children of Amil‘s staff. In time, the project began to include the children of employees, children of accredited physicians and those of outsourced sales people, all aged between 13 and 18. In the project, for one weekend the participants perform various psycho-pedagogical activities especially developed for the project. They also attend lectures on professional planning, sexuality, the dangers of drugs, taking care of their bodies and health, among other themes. The teenagers are also encouraged to set themselves clear goals for the next 20 years and, in greater detail, for the next five to ten years. The objective is to have the youngsters come out of this experience with the maximum possible guidance and a sound basis to pursue the route of personal happiness and professional achievement.
The program "Amil Praticando Saúde" (“Amil Practicing Health”) was structured based on three fundamental pillars for the balance of body and mind, integration, food reeducation (healthy food) and exercise. Besides involving the employees, the program is premised on encouraging physical activity and sports also for Company’s stakeholders.
“Mova-se” (“Move”) is the internal version of “Amil Praticando Saúde” (“Amil Practicing Health”). The program was created in 2009, when survey findings indicated an overly sedentary lifestyle among many employees. As result, the Company now encourages employees to form hiking and running groups. Mova-se includes approximately 1,200 people, but the target is to reach 1,600 by mid-2011.
