Banrisul has the best Return on Equity among banks in the country

Banrisul generated a return on equity of 45.21%, the highest figure in the financial and insurance sector and among the 20 highest for all domestic market sectors, according to a survey by the consulting firm Economática, published in this week’s edition of IstoÉ Dinheiro magazine. The period considered compared September, 2006 with the same month in 2007.

According to Banrisul’s CFO, Ricardo Hingel, the study underlines the development and quality of the bank’s loan portfolio, plus the growth in profitability, which is currently one of the highest among Brazilian banks. Hingel believes that the figures published by the magazine confirm the outstanding results obtained by the bank in the past years. “For example, when Fernando Lemos took over as CEO in 2003, the bank’s shareholders’ equity was R$ 692 million and is expected to close 2007 at more than R$ 2.7 billion".
