Timeline
On December 2, 1945, the first plant of Panificación Bimbo, S.A. opened its doors. Located in Santa María Insurgentes in Mexico City, the facilities consisted on a one office area, one courtyard, a warehouse, and a production room that today would be considered primitive, due to the fact that some of the operations were performed manually, even the molds were emptied by tapping vigorously!
The first Bimbo Bear products, which included the large bread, the small bread, and toast, were ready for sale at 3:00 pm on that December 2nd. Bimbo began producing its black bread until January 1946, and the cupcake and pound cake lines were introduced into the market the following year.
The Company had 10 trucks to distribute its products to bakeries, bread stores, grocery stores and small convenience stores, located in Mexico City’s area.
Today, Grupo Bimbo produces, distributes, and markets 10,000 products, which include a wide variety of sliced bread, buns, snack cakes, cookies, pastries, English muffins and bagels, confectionary, sweet and salted snacks, packed corn tortillas and wheat flour tortillas, tostadas (baked corn tortillas), cajeta (goat’s milk candy), among others.
The Company distributes products from its 153 plants located in Mexico, the United States, Central and South America, Iberian Region (Spain and Portugal) and Asia, through 51,000 routes, which allows visiting over 2,1 million pointos of sales throughout the world.
