NOTICE TO THE MARKET – LEGAL CATTLE RAISING
São Paulo, June 22, 2009 – MARFRIG ALIMENTOS S.A. undertakes not to acquire and slaughter or sell cattle meat from deforested areas of the Amazon Biome as of this date. This decision, which becomes effective as of the publication of this Notice, underlines Marfrig’s commitment to the sustainable development of cattle raising.
The Company undertakes to work in partnership with state governments, especially that of Mato Grosso through the MT Legal Program, and with Brazilian society as a whole, to develop a Cattle Origin Guarantee Program, including the adhesion of its suppliers who fatten cattle from other farms in order to:
- Ensure that cattle for slaughter do not come from areas embargoed by IBAMA, Brazil’s federal environmental agency, or that are on the slave labor list of the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE);
- Implant a control program over suppliers’ farms so that they do not acquire cattle from farms embargoed by IBAMA or the MTE’s the slave labor list.
