SulAmérica places today, December 20, the cornerstone of the works of the new headquarters at Edifício Torre Norte of Complexo Rio Cidade Nova, which will now bear the name of the insurance company. The new headquarters of SulAmérica will be built in a partnership with Racional Engenharia, according to the project by the Rio de Janeiro Municipality to renovate the city center, and aims at attracting new business opportunities for commercial and service establishments surrounding the project.

The new building of SulAmérica will improve the facilities and work conditions of the company’s more than 3,000 employees in Rio de Janeiro, and will meet the sustainability and operating efficiency requirements, allowing for up to 30% savings in electricity and natural resources. The project will have 21,500 sq. m. of high-quality offices, designed to provide full efficiency of the spaces, with an entire infrastructure for information technology systems.

The location is strategic and appropriate for customers and employees, at the intersection of Avenida Presidente Vargas and Avenida Paulo de Frontin, close to Santos Dumont and Tom Jobim airports, integrated to the Estácio-RioCidadeNova subway station and next to the end of Túnel Rebouças, which provides Access to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas.

Racional Engenharia, the construction company in charge of the works, will invest nearly R$85 million in the project. The agreement with SulAmérica will be in the “built-to-suit” model (agreement where the lessor implements the real-estate project to suit the lessee, which uses it for a certain period of time, ensuring the first return on investments). The initial term of the agreement is ten years. The transfer to the new headquarters is expected to take place in 2009.

Convention Center

In addition to the company’s new headquarters, the new SulAmérica Convention Center will be opened, with total capacity for six thousand people in an auditorium, simultaneously. The center has 42 thousand sq. m. built in an area of 16 thousand sq. m.. The convention center is divided into two levels and has mezzanines and an underground parking lot for 1,300 cars. Aimed at holding conferences, seminars and business events, the SulAmérica convention center will contribute to the city’s stake in Brazil’s business tourism sector.

Honor

Additionally, on December 20, there will be an opening event for the street called Rua Beatriz Larragoiti Lucas, in honor of one of the major representatives of the Brazilian insurance market. Great granddaughter of SulAmérica’s founder, the Spanish D. Joaquim Sanchez de Larragoiti Lucas, and daughter of Antonio Sanchez Larragoiti Jr., Beatriz took over the group’s leadership in 1982 along with her sister, Ema Larragoiti.
