Companys History

Created in 1949, the company ECISA was focused onbuilding and construction activities, particularly the development of roads, viaducts and highways. Among its main developments we can highlight the subways in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, parts of the federal highways BR 116, BR 153 e BR 040, port of Assunção in Paraguay and the construction of the system of pluvial waters in Montevideo.

In the 1970s, ECISA entered the shopping center development and investment industry and gradually decreased its involvement in other activities. ECISA was responsible for the planning, marketing, incorporation and construction of Conjunto Nacional Brasília, one of the first Brazilian shopping malls. Between 1980 and 2000, ECISA built and managed Shopping Recife, NorteShopping, Shopping Campo Grande, Shopping Delrey, Shopping Iguatemi Caxias do Sul, Shopping Villa-Lobos and Independência Shopping, inaugurated in April, 2008.

In the late 1990s, the management and leasing activities were transferred from ECISA to special purpose companies called Egec and Dacom. These companies were founded by ECISA to provide those services to its malls and to malls owned by third-parties.

In October 2006, GP Investments and Equity International, a global real estate company led by Sam Zell, got together and bought ECISA, EGEC and Dacom, merging them and creating BRMALLS. BRMALLS was born as the 5th largest mall company in Brazil and as the biggest provider of management and leasing services to the sector.

Since 2006, we acquired 39 malls, increased interests in 32 propeties, developed 11 malls and 21 expasions, thus becoming the largest mall Company in Latin America. Find below a list of our acquisitions and developments since 2006:
