Foot-and-mouth disease in Paraguay

Barretos, September 19th, 2011 - Minerva S.A. (BOVESPA: BEEF3; Bloomberg: BEEF3.BZ; Reuters: BEEF3.SA), one of the market leaders in South America in the production and sale of fresh beef, live cattle and byproducts, with operations also in the beef, pork and poultry processing segments, hereby informs its shareholders and the market in general that an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease has been reported in Paraguay, and therefore we have suspended slaughter in our plant located in that
country until the situation is clarified and neutralized.

Currently, Paraguay accounts for 5% of the Company’s total revenue. However, the suspension of the plant’s activities will low affect our revenue, since we have the flexibility to allocate our agreements and sales to other units.
